Merriman Capital Enters the Women’s Advisory Services Market with Key Hire
SAN FRANCISCO – June 11, 2015 – Merriman Holdings, Inc. (OTCQX: MERR), the parent company of Merriman Capital, Inc., is pleased to announce the hiring of Zoe Sexton, a highly experienced financial services entrepreneur, to expand the firm’s Wealth Management division and meet the growing need for women-centric wealth management services. Ms. Sexton brings 20 years of experience in financial services with a primary focus on serving women, multi-generational families and business owners.
Ms. Sexton will focus on expanding Merriman’s Wealth Management platform and its offering for family offices, entrepreneurs and women by providing holistic wealth management on investments, business-succession strategies, retirement planning, trust, estate and philanthropic interests. Ms. Sexton is a highly professional advisor, and passionate client advocate who has worked through a wide range of market climates and economic trends. Ms. Sexton and Merriman Capital believe significant growth in wealth management will be driven by the growing population of women with financial responsibilities and interests.
“Women as an investor class have typically been risk-averse,” says Sexton. “I believe the reason for this is that they have often been left out of the finance conversation. Conversation, education and familiarity bring comfort to any subject matter, particularly involving investments.”
Ms. Sexton will look to leverage Merriman’s Digital Capital Network (the “DCN”) to specifically focus on and create a women-centric offering, advising women-owned businesses, companies with female executives, and board members. In her new role, Sexton will also spearhead the listing of asset management related products on the DCN as the network continues to expand its reach into the family office market.
Ms. Sexton started her financial services career at Benefits Planning Inc. and then moved to Smith Barney to go through their extensive training program, becoming certified in Strategic Portfolio Management, Financial Planning, and Estate Planning. She has worked with retail and institutional brokerages both on the client side and the internal side of investment management and content development (writing white papers, economic reports and investment analysis). Ms. Sexton has provided consulting for individual investment advisors, and developed content for investment management firms such as Forward Management, The Headlands Group, and McCullough. Most recently, Ms. Sexton was a Private Wealth Manager and Director of Public Programming at Portsmouth Financial Services and The Putney Financial Group.
“We are very pleased to welcome Zoe to the firm. Her relentless energy, passion for women’s related causes, and her extensive professional network will be crucial to our growth of assets under advisement, as well as expanding the reach of our Digital Capital Network,” said Jon Merriman.
